Birth Through History

Pregnancy and childbirth from 1500 to the present

Home

This site documents my Knowledge Exchange partnership with the Library and Archives of the Royal College of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (London) and with the De partu group for research into the history of midwifery and childbirth.

The partnership has involved historians, archivists, midwives, doctors and other medical practitioners who are exploring the history of pregnancy and childbirth, and reflecting on constants and changes from the earliest printed texts on midwifery in Europe to the present day.

To find out more about my co-investigators, Janette Allotey and Carly Randall, to whom the project owes so much, visit the People pages.

We hope you enjoy browsing this site.
